AB  - Few ghosts appear in Nodier’s early stories, but a spectral atmosphere prevails. A poetics of evanescence or remanence privileges liminal moments and frontier locations, producing things and beings poised between presence and absence. A stylistics of the undecidable characterizes the narrative voices that rise from beyond the grave. Spectrality tries to resolve the out-of-jointness of a modern literature haunted by the weight of the past.
