In light of Nodier’s own experience of proscription, it seemed essential to see how the author depicted this character in Les Proscrits, Thérèse Aubert, Jean Sbogar, and Adèle. This article focuses on the political significance of this figure and the links between the universal proscription of this character type and a particular Nodierist writing of exclusion.
