In La Quittance du diable, he devotes himself to the same fascination with Scotland that wreaks havoc upon his colleagues. But, quite quickly, his tone will turn ironic and provide him with the occasion to distance himself from the Romantic catechism. This will particularly be the case in Frédéric et Bernerette and Dupont et Durand.
