AB  - « Les tubéreuses et le réséda: the article compares the ending of Le Père humilié with the short story "Le Dessous de cartes d'une partie de whist" from Les Diaboliques. Apparently this is a "source", so great is the thematic similarity between the two texts, each of which is organized around a double floral and funereal reference. Except that this source is in fact a "non-source", since in all likelihood Claudel did not read Barbey's short story, any more than, contrary to appearances, Une ténébreuse affaire is a source for L'Otage.
