AB  - In the chapter "Que le goût des biens et des maux dépend en bonne partie de l'opinion que nous en avons" of the first book of the Essays, Montaigne uses the expression "corps espagnolé" to designate the physiological modification produced by the use of corsets on some women’s bodies at court. The article analyses this expression from the point of view of its cultural reference and its meaning, in order to shed light on some aspects of Montaigne's scriptural practices.
