AB  - This article discusses two recent discoveries, an extremely rare edition of the Essays published by Pierre Chevalier in 1632 and a seemingly unknown one issued by Mathurin Hénault in 1648. The physical characteristics of each volume are described and the circumstances of publication are analysed. The second volume in particular has a complex relationship with the 1649 edition of the Essays, of which it may be a pirated version.
