AB  - Montaigne can be seen as a reader of Philippe de Commynes’ Memoirs, thanks to the study of explicit references to these latter in the Essais, then thanks to the analysis of some potential borrowings. He can also be considered as a memorialist’s continuator, because of the dialogue he establishes between a speech of desacralization of the royal figure and a praise of his own « average » condition.
