AB  - With the methodological use of the conceptual image of silène, Montaigne is experimenting a non-conformist use of classical dualisms (nature-custom, conscience-convention, liberty-necessity, intus-foris, inward-outward, substance-appearance, essence-phenomenon, face-mask, soul-body). In doing so, he redefines the sceptical attitude. Thus, the first action of scepticism will be the opening of new things, more than their discovery.
