AB  - The study of the presence of Boethius, whose name was shared by other scholars, in the French dictionaries of the Ancien Régime confirms the methodological importance of the comparative approach as applied to lexicographical texts and their sources. The learned were familiar with Jean de Meung, translator and commentator of Boethius, whom Pierre Borel quotes in his Trésor de Recherches et antiquitez gauloises... (1655), a source that is sometimes overlooked by scholarship.
