AB  - This contribution aims to question the figure of the building contractor based on individuals’ careers in Albi in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, focusing on the master mason Pos de Peiraficha. With his competence, reputation, large number of commitments, and participation in decision-making circles, upon an initial reading of the sources, he appears to be a true contractor. Yet the contracting potential of these master craftsmen in the competitive public works market seems to have been limited
