We witness the chronicle of an announced fall, the fall of an exceptional, decadent, and naturalist character returned to a banal fictional situation. The reader is witness to the trajectory of this character-comet. Like the image of the aerolith in the novel, Des Esseintes attracts and is only observed during his passage and fall. Attracted, we follow his immobile journey in his dreams and his desires.
