  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Women and Translation in the Italian Tradition
  • Author: Carinci (Eleonora)
  • Abstract: Isocrates’ oration To Demonicus, nowadays recognized as spurious, was well known in sixteenth-century Europe by means of a number of Latin and vernacular translations of the original Greek. In 1556, the poet Chiara Matraini published in Florence her translation from Latin into Italian of the text. This chapter explores her Oratione d’Isocrate a Demonico and her activity as a translator, against the wider background of her literary production and the cultural network in which she operated.
