L’amour allemand est-il un « amour protestant » ? Charles de Villers et Dorothea Rodde face à Luther

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Un homme, deux cultures. Charles de Villers entre France et Allemagne (1765-1815)
  • Author: Ardisson (Susanne)
  • Abstract: The idealized conception of German love, as explained by Villers, and opposed to the tradition of the French love novel, has its origin in his great regard for German philosophy and religion. Villers draws an outcome in which he considers the acts of violence during the French Revolution as the consequence of a very old materialistic philosophy, which promotes pleasure and body, whereas German culture focuses on soul and virtue.
