Abstract: These opening remarks introduce the central question addressed in this issue of The Balzac Revue/Revue Balzac regarding the publishing of Balzac’s work, considered in its dual dimensions of production/dissemination in the original era and subsequent transmission. We explore the historical and symbolic stakes, the relationship with readers, and the current contributions of digital technologies. The piece ends with an overview of the different contributions to this collective work.
