Abstract: Danièle James-Raoul’s contribution studies the meanings of the term fabula in the medio-Latin poetic arts. While in Latin or vernacular literary texts, the term fabula and “fable” typically designates a misleading tale, the medio-Latin poetic arts rarely distinguish the fabula from related categories such as the apologus and parabola. The term fabula thus functions more as an “icon” of the fictional account than a precise generic category.
