Abstract: Scholar from Cairo Islamic university of Al-Azhar, Rifâ'a At-Tahtaoui discovered The Social Contract in Paris. On his side, the Genevan citizen had been interested in Islam. This chiasmus is an invitation to read Tahtaoui’s reflections on European Enlightenments alongside Rousseau’s remarks on the Muslims’ Prophet. Focusing on the theologico-political problematics, this cross-reading puts European and Oriental Enlightenments into perspective.
