Abstract: Kemalism is often defined by the mechanical imitation of a Western model inspired by the writers of the Enlightenment. This article intends to refine this idea by examining the writings of Sabahattin Eyüboğlu who has been involved in public policy through his translations and his teaching activities for the Department of Education from 1936 to 1946. He inscribes authors like Rousseau in a humanistic tradition which is defined by its proximity to the people.
