  • Abstract: This article aims to study the ambiguity of Vernian representations of certain peoples colonized by France and England in the nineteenth century. Without any pretensions of exhaustiveness, we return to the political, scientific, and ideological context of a few texts in order to understand how Verne fosters his depiction of colonialism. This study identifies the stereotypical pattern used by the novelist as well as the transgressions thereof.
