Abstract: The appearance of Hungarian comic book adaptations of Verne’s works coincided with the period during which postrevolutionary socialist Hungary consolidated. The comic book culture of the time, in contrast to the practice in Western countries, was mainly based on the adaptation of literary works. Even if a tendency toward depoliticization can be seen in the adaptations, the political motives are clearly connoted.
