Abstract: This article is a study of the intertwining of narration between written digital narratives and video games, looking at horror narratives adapted for video games as well as video games that give birth to horror narratives. Adaptations from one medium to another show that these recombinant narratives are interwoven with narrative clichés and shared tropes, which are the subject of the second part of this exploration. Agency (and its absence) is central to understanding the narrative power dynamics at play.
