Abstract: Contributing variations on the East, Africa, Europe, and the USSR, Dorgelès brings in his own way a new dimension to the theme of a constantly evolving Elsewhere. This new exoticism puts an end both to an Elsewhere and to ideologies dreamed up by the literary imaginary. In the face of the crises that France experienced between the two world wars, his writings remind us of the glory of a country that, with the greatness of its colonial empire, should not buckle in the face of fascist threats.
