Abstract: The definition of the novel offered by Jean-Marie Schaeffer in 2002 sometimes seems more applicable to paraliterature and has been criticized by contemporanéistes. But if one wants to discuss it in light of the contemporary novel, it must be acknowledged that the contemporary novel does not strictly adhere to or set itself apart from what is novelistic. It explores a whole spectrum between these two boundaries.
