Abstract: The active reception of Gustave Flaubert in Ireland, a country long colonized by the United Kingdom, is related to the poetics of writers who forged a language inside the English language, daring to make linguistic innovations and think about style in the tradition of the great French writer. More specifically, the article explores the influence of Gustave Flaubert on Elizabeth Bowen, James Joyce and Samuel Beckett.
