Abstract: The article recalls the breadth of the vision of the Hungarian thinker and the keenness of his critique of decadence. It is notable that Lukács always considered decadence as a current among others—and certainly a dominant current—but one thwarted permanently by the thrust of a historical development that, even in quiet times, collected and reorganized its forces for the next phase.
