Abstract: As many of their contemporaries, Bataille and Bernanos have read the mystics. At a time when literary language is under suspicion, they borrowed from the mystics their response to the unsayable : overturning language and common logic. For literature, it is no longer a matter of knowing how to speak of God, but rather of evil. Literature derails when it encounters the mystics; it is the sometimes paradoxical support by means of which Bataille and Bernanos seek to reach a certain form of truth.
