Abstract: The contribution studies the allusions to Jean Froissart’s Chronicles in Les Faux Saulniers. The chronicler of the Hundred Years War was the subject of a real craze among novelists and historians in the 19th century. Dumas, in particular, drew much inspiration from his Chronicles to the point of risking plagiarism. Through the uses, rewritings and reinventions of Froissart in Les Faux Saulniers, we will see how Nerval competes with Dumas by refusing to appropriate the medieval vein as he did.
