Abstract: In undertaking Les Faux Saulniers, Nerval found himself grappling with both fortuitous and editorial constraints that led him to question the very conditions of production of the serial novel he was undertaking. In so doing, he laid bare the procedures of the genre while diverting it towards an autofiction before its time, which imposed fragmentation and continuous enunciative questioning.
