Abstract: Endorsing the perspective of visual studies, the article explores Aurélia’s permeability to the techniques of optical and theatrical shows of early 19th century – stage sets, panorama, diorama and polyorama in particular. We demonstrate how these techniques, exogenous to the autobiographical genre, are turned by the writer into a tool for clinical analysis.
