Abstract: Moving from a parallel between images that are similar in Leopardi’s poems and Nerval’s Sylvie, this study, inspired by a comparative perspective, reflects on the ways the two poets reckon with the problem of Reason, as set up by the Enlightenment. It is also about the longing for youth and love as well as about the stellar emptiness surrounding the lost object of desire, as described by the two writers.
