Gérard de Nerval« Boleslas Ier surnommé Chrobry le Grand […] Chant historique mis en vers français par M. Gérard », dans J. U. Niemcewicz, La Vieille Pologne […], 1833
Abstract: The French translation of Julien-Ursin Niemcewicz’s Chants historiques give rise to the publication in 1833 of the book La Vieille Pologne, which is both a remarkable example of the Romantic illustrated book and a collective manifestation of the “generation of 1830” taking up the cause for the independence of Poland. Gérard “puts in verse” a poem evoking Boleslas I, which, republished her for the first time, allows to put into perspective the “polonism” of Nerval.
