Abstract: Saint-John Perse's poem-discourse Pour Dante (For Dante, 1965) should be analyzed according to the categories enumerated in the title of Victor Hugo's famous poem, Nomen, Numen, Lumen. Perse's discourse is organized accordingly. However, it develops these topics not linearly but poetically. This article identifies and draws out that fundamental organizing principle, unnoticed before now.
