Abstract: The paper expands the analysis started in 1980 on the bilingual component of Ungaretti’s poetry at the end of World War One, and on the importance of his research in French – or in his two working languages simultaneously – from to the 1930s. But the fundamental impact of the other language was to influence the rhythmic reading of his verse and prose works, and then the almost entirely bilingual renewal of his writing for La fin de Chronos.
