Abstract: This paper focuses on Ungaretti’s collaboration with the anti-fascist magazine Mercurio, reconstructing his complex intellectual path from the last years of the fascist regime to the early post-war period. The poem Terra..., which he published in Mercurio in 1946 is the object of an analysis ; after a comparison of this version with the definitive one (published in Il Dolore), this poem is interpreted as a celebration of Italy’s cultural and spiritual resistance to the destruction of war.
