Abstract: The paper aims to show the relevance of an exhaustive study of the sententiæ of the Commedia. Although appreciated among the readers of the poem, the sententiæ have seldom been the object of interest in Dante studies. Nonetheless, the first readers of the poem attest to their importance. Of particular interest, however, are the approaches proposed by Guido da Pisa and Benvenuto da Imola to the sententiæ.
