  • Abstract: Throughout the 14th century and until the middle of the 15th, commentators and biographers constantly reinterpreted the figure of Dante. In Florence the issue had a political dimension : since the poet was the object of a patriotic cult, his message had to be constantly adapted. From Boccaccio to Bruni, through Salutati and Filippo Villani, the article studies the ideological and literary modalities of these returns to Dante, which constitute various mirrors of the Florentine political identity.
