Frank La Brasca, “André Pézard, philologist of (the) passion(s)”

Drawing on some examples taken from Le “Convivio” de Dante, sa lettre, son esprit, the author evaluates the contribution of Pézard, from this first essay all the way to the most technically specialized Dantology, while showing the admirable continuity presented by the scientific work and the intellectual and human itinerary of this undisputed master of Dante studies, whose example the Société Dantesque de France must constantly endeavor to remain faithful to.

Keywords: Dante Alighieri, philology, medieval literature, Italian literature, literature of the Great War.

Contextualizing and diffracting Dantes Paradiso

The author studies the motif of resurrected bodies in the Commedia from the point of view of contextualization and from that of diffraction. He first focuses on the function of the aerial body and the glorious body by drawing on the scholastic opposition between plurality and unity of forms, then extends his analysis using “diffraction,” looking at Elsa Morantes Aracœli and focusing on the question of the mother tongue in relation to the materiality of the body and the image of breastfeeding.

Francesco Giusti, « Rispondere solo a Beatrice.

Francesco Giusti, “Answering only to Beatrice. Tanto gentile e tanto onesta pare and the risk of lyrical repetition”

The sonnet “Tanto gentile e tanto onesta pare” in Vita Nova is studied following a performative model rather than a hermeneutic one: lyrical performance is understood as an event repeated at each reading of the poem, as defined by Jonathan Culler, which makes it possible to generate virtue and increase it in the reader. The author also draws on the sonnet “A ciascunalma presa,” on the personification of Love and poetic ethics as defined by Dante in De vulgari eloquentia.

Keywords: Dante Alighieri, medieval literature, Italian poetry, narratology, literary studies.

Ottavio Brigandì, “A color scheme in Dantes Purgatorio”

The author shows the existence of a mnemic structure in Purgatorio, focusing on the very precise distribution of colorful and bright symbols, especially the smeraldo, the purpureus, and the lucerna. Along with the Bible, this symbolic architecture finds its theoretical foundations in the hierarchy of virtues in Macrobius and in the doctrine of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as according to St. Thomas Aquinas.
