  • Abstract: In Edmond Rostand’s theater, fathers are characterized by their rarity, their low profile—or even their total absence—, and their systematic benevolence. They are always watered down compared to their historical or literary sources. The Oedipus complex is nonexistent or fake. Consequently, intergenerational conflict is often replaced by another dramatic wellspring: the double.
