Abstract: In studying what constituted implicit intertextuality for poets and readers of the nineteenth century, the analysis of school culture is a real goldmine. The textbook Leçons françaises by Noël and Delaplace reveals an aspect of the poetics of the young Baudelaire, who grafted a new aesthetic onto classical material. The poet succeeds in creating a fusion of modern ideas and traditional practices.
