Abstract: This article discusses the influence of Jean-François de Saint-Lambert on the Swedish poet Johan Gabriel Oxenstierna (1750–1818). In Sweden, Les Saisons was not perceived as a descriptive and philosophical poem, but as proof that Virgil’s Georgics could be recreated in vernacular language. This article seeks above all to show how a political interpretation of the landscape, latent in the Latin model but absent in Saint-Lambert’s poem, was revived in the Swedish context.
