  • Abstract: When André Chénier died, guillotined, in July 1794, nearly all of his poetry was still in manuscript form and much was still in the drafting stages. What route would his work have taken if he had survived the Revolution? The series of Ïambes composed at Saint-Lazare prison have often been read as a literary will. A previously unknown testimonial sheds new light on the question.
