Abstract: For Samain, Paris was the Jardin where he found refuge and practiced a career; it also inspired his intelligence through encounters with masterpieces and fortuitous meetings with others. These meetings were amicable as well as romantic. Through the indiscretion of his Carnets intimes, we know of his brief romance with the little Natacha (Natacha), and thanks to Jules Mouquet’s encounter with him we know of the secret flame he kept for the sweet Cécile (Cerizier). These eighty-eight previously unpublished octosyllabes reveal the impression that the kind Marguerite (Ugalde) in “parade dress” had on his soul.
