  • Abstract: This article sheds light on the work of a rather unknown eighteenth-century woman author by studying how the indigenous world is represented in two of her short fictional works published in 1724, the “Nouvelle américaine” and the “Histoire de Cléodon.” It shows that the representations found in these texts basically follow the main thrust of the discourse on the Americas and the indigenous world (historical, anthropological, philosophical, literary), while still expressing a gallant aesthetic.
