Abstract: The dinner table at Vaubyessard is analyzed as the literary transposition of a still life (constitutive elements, compositional order). But the lability of the narrative control and the semantic tremor of the writing generate an axiological uncertainty and an anthropological chiaroscuro. The parallel with other set tables inscribes this motif in the imaginary and stylistic economy of the narrative, which tragically combines desire, death, and still life.
