Abstract: Taking advantage of the recent shifts in reading practices and a highly flexible genre system, Honoré de Balzac, the proclaimed initiator of the realist novel, sought in the poetic model the means to intensify his narrative prose. Under his pen, lyrical parentheses and the poetry effect function as immersive media that work to densify the reading experience; La Comédie humaine thus belongs to a transgeneric category.
