- Abstract: This article, based on a keyword search of two periodical databases and inspired by the work of Bob Nicholson, examines Paul Verlaine’s reception in Britain in the 1890s. Verlaine’s influence as a decadent poet—from both a sociological and geographical perspective—was more significant than scholars have hitherto believed, reaching not only elite publications, but also the press.
