Abstract: Noël Aubert de Versé (1642?-1714), who lived through the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes by constantly disaffiliating and reaffiliating himself with Protestantism and Catholicism, as well as with Arianism and Socinianism, explains the conditions under which religious attachment can be legitimate: it must necessarily be effected by the Spirit of God, as a rooting of the Gospel in the heart of man; it therefore concerns only those truths that are accepted by all Christians.
