Gabriella Aragione, « L’Antiquité chrétienne dans la RHPR. Remarques sur un siècle de recherches »

Les années 1920-1930 et 1960-1980 marquent un tournant dans l’histoire de la recherche sur l’Antiquité chrétienne, en raison, respectivement, de l’essor de la méthode historico-critique et du renouvellement des études patristiques. Les travaux publiés dans la RHPR contribuent activement aux débats scientifiques de l’époque, tantôt en suivant les modèles épistémologiques existants, tantôt en en suggérant des nouveaux.

Gabriella Aragione, “Christian Antiquity in the RHPR. Remarks about a Century of Research”

The years 1920-1930 and 1960-1980 represent a turning point in the history of Christian Antiquity research because of, respectively, the emergence of the historical-critical method and the renewal of patristic studies. The works published in the RHPR actively contribute to the scientific debates of the time, at times by following existing epistemic models, and at others by suggesting new ones.

Matthieu Arnold, « Albert Schweitzer dans la RHPR »

Dès 1924, la RHPR a contribué à la réception en France de l’œuvre écrite d’Albert Schweitzer. Elle a consacré des études critiques à ses ouvrages dans les années 1920 et 1930, puis des comptes-rendus plus brefs aux rééditions et aux traductions dans les années 1950 et 1960. À 194partir de 1976, des articles ont éclairé les différents aspects de sa pensée, voire de son œuvre humanitaire, et publié des documents inédits.

Matthieu Arnold, “Albert Schweitzer in the RHPR”

Ever since 1924, the RHPR has contributed to the reception of Albert Schweitzer’s written work in France. It devoted critical studies to his writings in the years 1920 and 1930, and shorter reports to the reeditions and translations of the 1950s and 1960s. Since 1976, articles have shed light on different aspects of his thought, or even on his humanitarian work, and published unedited documents.

Jean-François Collange, « Roger Mehl (1912-1997). L’éthique chrétienne entre distance et engagement »

Les articles consacrés à l’éthique publiés dans la RHPR par Roger Mehl témoignent de la profondeur de sa réflexion sur les fondements de l’éthique chrétienne et de la finesse de ses analyses relatives aux lieux de son incarnation. Ouverte aux valeurs existentielles portées par la modernité (magnifiées et transformées par la Parole), cette éthique s’incarne au niveau personnel comme aux plans socio-économique et politique. Le cheminement proposé s’élabore entre regard distancié et engagement.

Jean-François Collange, “Roger Mehl (1912-1997). Christian Ethics between Distance and Engagement”

Articles devoted to ethics and published in the RHPR by Roger Mehl testify to the depth of his reflexion on the fundamentals of Christian ethics and to the sharpness of his analyses on the places of its incarnation. Open to existential values transmitted by modernity (magnified and modified by the Word), these ethics find an embodiment at personal as well as socio-economic and political levels. The offered progression develops between a distanced stance and engagement.

Beat Föllmi, « Théodore Gérold : au carrefour de la musicologie et de la théologie, des cultures française et germanique »

Théodore Gérold, premier titulaire de la chaire de musicologie à Strasbourg après le retour de l’Alsace à la France, ne publia que peu d’articles dans la RHPR. Ses contributions permirent néanmoins aux lecteurs de prendre connaissance des débats qui avaient cours autour des répertoires de la musique sacrée et des enjeux théologiques qui y étaient associés. Il a aussi publié une étude novatrice sur les Pères de l’Église et la musique dans les EHPR.

Beat Föllmi, “Theodore Gérold: at the Crossroads of Musicology and Theology, of French and Germanic Cultures”

Theodore Gérold, the first holder of the chair of musicology in Strasbourg after Alsace’s return to France, publishes only a few articles in the RHPR. Nevertheless, his contributions allowed readers to learn about the debates that were taking place around the repertoires of sacred music and theological issues associated with them. He has also published an innovative study on church fathers and music in the EHPR.

Christian Grappe, « Ernst Lohmeyer et l’“idée” juive et chrétienne du martyre »

L’article qu’Ernst Lohmeyer a publié dans la RHPR en 1927 sur l’« idée » juive et chrétienne du martyre relève de l’application de catégories néokantiennes au donné biblique et parabiblique. Il explique le martyre en fonction d’une métaphysique des deux mondes dans laquelle le témoin est simultanément l’avocat de Dieu sur terre, porté et conduit qu’il est par la Parole, et attiré et élevé par Dieu jusqu’à lui malgré sa mort qui se trouve elle-même subvertie.

Christian Grappe, “Ernst Lohmeyer and the Jewish and Christian ‘Idea’ of Martyrdom”

Ernst Lohmeyer’s 1927 article in the RHPR on the Jewish and Christian « idea » of martyrdom is based on the application of neo-Kantian categories to biblical and parabiblical data. He explains martyrdom according to the metaphysics of both worlds in which the witness is simultaneously 196the advocate of God on earth, carried and led as he is by the Word, while being also attracted and elevated by God to himself, despite his death which is itself subverted.

Marc Lienhard, « La RHPR et les dissidents des xvie et xviie siècles »

À la Réforme magistérielle s’oppose la Réforme radicale, présente de manière communautaire dans l’anabaptisme ou représentée par quelques grandes figures telles que Franck et Schwenckfeld. Nous nous employons à montrer ici montrer comment, de 1920 à nos jours, la RHPR a traité de ce sujet, quelles informations ont été transmises et quelles interprétations ont été proposées.

Marc Lienhard, “The RHPR and sixteenth and seventeenth Century Dissidents”

The Radical Reform is opposed to the Magisterial Reform. It is present in a communitarian way in Anabaptism or represented by some great figures such as Frank and Schwenckfeld. We attempt here to show how, from 1920 to the present day, the RHPR has dealt with this subject, what inputs have been provided and what interpretations have been proposed.

Freddy Raphaël, « André Neher, un aiguilleur de l’histoire »

L’itinéraire d’André Neher (1914-1988) est marqué par la brisure perpétrée par le nazisme. Dès lors s’impose à lui l’impératif absolu de reconstruire un judaïsme présent à son temps. Il le fait en conjuguant : l’exigence prophétique et la nécessité d’affronter le silence de Dieu ; un humanisme en tension entre mystique et raison ; le motif de la « montée » vers Jérusalem, avec la volonté de participer à la construction de l’État d’Israël, auquel il confère une dimension messianique.

Freddy Raphaël, “André Neher, a Switchman of History”

The itinerary of André Neher (1914-1988) is marked by the fracture operated by Nazism. Since then, the absolute necessity of rebuilding a Judaism present to its time has been vital to him. He does so by combining: the prophetic exigence and the necessity of challenging God’s silence; a humanism in tension between mysticism and reason; the motive of the “rise” to Jerusalem, with the will to take part in the construction of the State of Israel, to which he confers a messianic dimension.

Frédéric Rognon, « Un article de Maurice Leenhardt. Relire, cent ans plus tard, les “Notes sur la traduction du Nouveau Testament en langue primitive” »

Un siècle après, l’article publié par Maurice Leenhardt dans la RHPR sur « la traduction du Nouveau Testament en langue primitive », ne laisse pas d’interroger le lecteur. Quoique grevé de lourds présupposés, il marque une étape décisive dans l’itinéraire intellectuel de son auteur, aussi bien que dans l’histoire de l’ethnolinguistique et de la traductologie. Une double mise en contexte permet donc de saisir sa singularité ainsi que ses enjeux.

Frédéric Rognon, “An Article by Maurice Leenhardt. Rereading, a Hundred Years Later, ‘Notes on the Translation of the New Testament in Primitive Language’”

A century later, the article published by Maurice Leenhardt in the RHPR on “the translation of the New Testament in primitive language” doesn’t refrain from questioning the reader. Though marked by heavy presuppositions, it represents a decisive turn in the intellectual itinerary of its author, as well as in the history of ethnolinguistics and translation. A double contextualisation hence allows to grasp its singularity as well as its challenges.

Gerd Theissen, « Tensions politiques et compréhension théologique. Contributions allemandes dans la RHPR »

Quatre phases peuvent être identifiées dans les contributions des auteurs allemands à la RHPR. Elles traduisent une évolution qui reflète elle-même l’histoire de l’Europe avec le passage de travaux pionniers de néotestamentaires qui ont su tracer avec courage, au temps où sévissait le national-socialisme, de nouveaux horizons à des coopérations à la fois encouragées et assumées. Cette évolution reflète à sa manière l’histoire de l’Europe.

Gerd Theissen, “Political Tensions and Theological Understandings. German Contributions to the RHPR”

Four phases can be identified in German authors’ contributions to the RHPR. They reflect an evolution that itself mirrors the history of Europe, with the passage of pioneering work by New Testament scholars who courageously traced new horizons at the time of National Socialism to forms of cooperation that are both encouraged and accepted. In its own way, this development reflects the history of Europe.

Marc Vial, « Sachexegese. Oscar Cullmann face à l’“École de Karl Barth” »

L’article analysé, consacré à l’herméneutique biblique, est le premier de ceux publiés dans la RHPR qui ait positivement évalué la pensée de K. Barth. Son auteur, O. Cullmann, souscrit à la méthode de la Sachexegese préconisée par Barth, lui reprochant cependant de l’avoir considérée comme une alternative aux procédures historiques. On montre que, si la théorie qu’il esquisse est très proche de celle de R. Bultmann, elle s’en distingue toutefois, ne ménageant aucune place à la Sachkritik.

Marc Vial, « Sachexegese. Oscar Cullmann Facing the “School of Karl Barth” »

The analysed article, devoted to biblical hermeneutics, is the first of those published in the RHPR that positively evaluated Karl Barth’s thought. Its author, O. Cullmann, subscribes to the method of Sachexegese 199prescribed by Barth, though criticising him for having considered it as an alternative to historical procedures. We show that, if the theory Cullmann elaborates is very close to that of R. Bultmann, it distinguishes itself from it by leaving no room for Sachkritik.

Gilbert Vincent, « Présence de la sociologie dans l’histoire de la RHPR »

Les articles de la RHPR traitant de la sociologie des religions, et des protestantismes en particulier, témoignent des préoccupations théoriques et thématiques successives qui ont rythmé son développement depuis Durkheim et du souci de ne pas se laisser piéger par une conception trop rationaliste de la raison : accueil réservé à la sociologie compréhensive de Max Weber et aux études de Paul Ricœur ; usage prudent, voire critique, du concept de sécularisation.

Gilbert Vincent, « Presence of Sociology in the History of the RHPR »

The articles of the RHPR about sociology of religions, and Protestant movements in particular, attest to the successive theoretical ant thematical preoccupations that rhythmed its development since Durkheim and to the concern no to be trapped by a too rationalist definition of reason: limited reception of Max Weber’s comprehensive sociology, and of Paul Ricœur’s studies, careful or even critical use of the concept of secularisation.
