Abstract: The exchange of letters in the Recherche is characterized, on the stylistic level, by an obliqueness due to frequent detours in the flow of epistolary communication; on the diegetic level, by numerous manipulations of the representation of the letters; on the level of narrative discourse, by the expression of competing points of view and the resulting mobility of beings; and finally, on the symbolic level, by writing oriented toward the knowledge of others and oneself.
