Abstract: The role and conception of reading in passages of Le Temps retrouvé about the “inner book of unknown signs,” works of art, bibliophilia, and literature are examined here. There is above all an aesthetics of reading found there that recalls the origins of the Recherche. Reading is, for Marcel Proust, “on the threshold of spiritual life,” an incitement and an infinite project like the book to come in Le Temps retrouvé.
