Abstract: Here I lay the groundwork for a catalogue raisonné of phantom works that haunt the novelistic framework of the Recherche and whose text is completely or partially absent, even problematic, by questioning their generic status, the modalities of their presence and function in the novel, with which they enter into complex intertextual play, revealing the double task of literary memory and creative invention at work in Proust’s fiction.
